TESOLacademic is an independent initiative. We are not a limited company or commercial concern. We are quite simply a free-at-source website aimed at linking TESOL theory and practice. The site arises out of Huw Jarvis's 28 years' experience in the field as an ELT practitioner, trainer and researcher. My work, in a wide variety of contexts, has persuaded me of a pressing need to bridge theory and practice in TESOL. Researchers frequently write for "the academy" but the applications of their work lie in language pedagogy and asking researchers to talk directly about their work to teachers, teacher-trainers and teacher-trainees is one way to link theory and practice. The web offers an ideal meduim with which to do this and I invite you to support this initiative.
David Nunan – This initiative is “... a very worthy one and I am absolutely thrilled to be able to take part in it.” (Keynote talk on this site, 2009).
Amy B M Tsui – “Both students and researchers in the field should find this site useful. Congratulations!”
Diane Larsen-Freeman – “I admire your initiative. What a good idea!”
Stephen Krashen - “It’s a fine idea.”
Suresh Canagarajah - “This is certainly a wonderful idea. I'll pass on the link to my students and colleagues”. (All personal emails, 2008).
There are no adverts or pop-ups on this site and we would like to keep it this way. However, we do have costs to meet particularly in terms of domain name fees, hosting expenses and other drivers. If you like this site and want to see it continue to grow, then you are invited to consider financially supporting our work. Join us in "putting something back" into TESOL.
